Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
I asked fans to send me their lists of 5-10 favorite musicals which I would then create a show around. This is the fourth of these shows which I call Fan Favorites.
One problem that I have with creating a show like this is that some of these musicals are so popular that almost every song was a hit. Try choosing only one or two songs to showcase that musical.
Our first show on this list is a classic and one of the most produced musicals in history. The original 1950 Broadway production ran for 1,200 performances and won five Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is ranked as the 31st most popular musicals and has had many all-star revivals. From the musical, Guys and Dolls, we are going to hear the song “The Oldest Establishment”.
You just heard the song “The Oldest Establishment” from Fan Favorite musical Guys and Dolls.
The next show on their list is another popular choice with the original production running for 3,242 performances making it the longest running Broadway musical at the time and winning 9 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The story about a Jewish father conflicted between his cultural traditions and his daughter’s responses to a changing modern world resonated with cultures all over the world. From Fiddler On The Roof, we are going to hear “Sunrise, Sunset”.
You just heard “Sunrise, Sunset” from the Fan Favorite musical Fiddler On The Roof.
This next popular musical debuted on Broadway in 1934 running for 420 performances making it the fourth longest running musical of the 1930s. It is regularly produced by high schools and colleges and has had several Broadway revivals. From the 1987 revival of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes, we are going to hear Patti Lupon sing the title song.

I asked fans to send me their lists of 5-10 favorite musicals that I would turn into a show. This is the fourth of those shows which I call Fan Favorites.
The next show on their list began as an animated movie and its Broadway version has become the third longest running show and counting. It is also the highest grossing Broadway production of all time presently at around 1.9 billion. From Disney’s The Lion King, we are going to hear “They Live In You”.
You just heard “They Live In You” from Fan Favorite musical The Lion King.
The next show on their favorite’s list’s original Off-Broadway production ran for five years after totaling 2,209 performances. It used ground breaking puppetry to bring the plant, Audrey II, to life. From the Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, here’s the song “Skid Row (Downtown)”.
You just heard “Skid Row (Downtown)” from the Fan Favorite musical Little Shop of Horrors.
This next musical was considered the first impressionist Broadway musical as the lyrics, dialogue, plot, and character were often implied, suggested and abstract. It reflected the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s. From Fan Favorite musical Hair, here are the songs “Easy to Be Hard” and “Hair”.
You just heard “Easy to Be Hard” and the title song from the Fan Favorite musical Hair.

The last favorite musical on their list is by the same song writing duo that brought us Damn Yankees. Opening in 1954, one year before Damn Yankees, and running for 1000 performances, was the Fan Favorite Adler and Ross musical, The Pajama Game. Starring rocker Bonnie Raitt’s father, John Raitt, here is the song “Hey There”.
