September 3, 2024--Moms Heart Matters

On this day after Labor Day, we honor women who labor to bring children into this world.  But in the USA, and particularly in Georgia, successful laboring to produce a healthy child and especially a mother who lives to love and nurture her child.   Maternal deaths (while pregnant or within one year of birth) are all too common, with one-third of maternal deaths occurring postpartum.

Liberty Regional Medical Center, in Hinesville GA southwest of Savannah is trying to change this with a program they pioneered in 2003 called Moms Heart Matters built on the work of two of the facility's nurses, Heather Daniels and Sandy Wells.  The program provides at risk moms with a digital therapy program designed to reduce hypertension-related maternal mortality.  These nurses recently presented their program in Atlanta and are partnering with the Georgia Family Connection Program, Amerigroup, the Georgia OBGYN Society, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Annie E. Casey Founding to bring this life saving program to women at risk throughout Georgia.
