  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • I asked fans to send me their lists of favorite musicals which I would create a show around. This is the 6th of those shows that I call Fan Favorites.

  • The first show on this fan’s list had music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and based on the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The musical opened on Broadway in 1969 and closed after 1,217 performances. From Fan Favorite musical 1776, here are the songs “Sit Down, John” and “Cool, Cool, Considerate Men”.

  • You just heard the songs “Sit Down, John” and “Cool, Cool, Considerate Men” from Fan Favorite musical 1776.

  • The next show on his favorites list is the most successful show from composer Stephen Sondheim and the first show that he wrote as both composer and lyricist. It opened on Broadway in 1962 and ran for 964 performances. From Fan Favorite musical A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, here are the songs “Comedy Tonight”, “Free”, and “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid”.

  • You just heard “Comedy Tonight”, “Free”, and “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid” from the Fan Favorite musical A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.

  • The third favorite musical on his list is an interesting choice. This 2001 musical is a satirical comedy that satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, corporate mismanagement and much more. It ran for 965 performances. A twenty year drought has caused a terrible water shortage causing all bathroom activities to be done in public toilets run by a giant corporation. From the Fan Favorite musical, Urinetown, here are the songs “Urinetown”, and “Run, Freedom, Run!”.

  • You just heard the songs “Urinetown”, and “Run, Freedom, Run!” from the Fan Favorite musical Urinetown.

  • The next musical on this list is a favorite of many people and considered a classic. Many people think that it must have won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1957 but it lost out to The Music Man. From the Fan Favorite Musical, West Side Story, we are going to hear the songs “Something’s Coming” followed by “Quintet” and “I Feel Pretty”.

  • The next show on the list is Harnick and Bock’s most famous musical based on stories about a Dairyman and his daughters. From Fan Favorite Musical, Fiddler On The Roof, here are the songs “To Life”, “Far from the Home I Love”, and “Anatevka”.

  • You just heard the songs, “To Life”, “Far from the Home I Love”, and “Anatevka”, from the Fan Favorite Musical Fiddler On The Roof.

  • The last musical on his list originally received terrible reviews. It was called “a lurid Victorian melodrama produced with Victorian lavishness” and “a witless and synthetic entertainment”. It went on to become arguably the most popular musical in the world. From Fan Favorite Musical, Les Miserables, here are the songs “Stars” and “One Day More”.

  • You just heard the songs “Stars” and “One Day More” from the Fan Favorite Musical, Les Miserables.

  • And that concludes this week’s episode of “well, That’s Show Biz!”.
