Evening Eclectic November 10, 2024 Frederica von Stade & Joseph Turrin

Tonight on Evening Eclectic I am talking with mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade & composer Joseph Turrin about the work “And Crimson Roses Once Again Be Fair”.  This work is done in collaboration with Musica Viva NY Choir and Orchestra conducted by Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez.  “And Crimson Roses Once Again Be Fair” is a cantata written in 2018 to remember the sacrifices of the first world war on the centennial of the end of the war.  This work is on the album CRIMSON ROSES: Contemporary  American Choral Music which is being released on Naxos Recordings in a couple of weeks on November 22nd.  We are talking about this on the evening of November 10th because tomorrow Veterans Day or Remembrance Day or Armistice Day, is the day remembering the 106th anniversary of the end of World War 1 - ironically called the war to end all wars.
