Groundhog Day 2025

“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

2-02-2025

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today is Groundhog Day.

  • <Play “Day 3” from Groundhog Day The Musical>

  • Today is Groundhog Day and you just heard “Day 3” from Groundhog Day The Musical. “Day 1” was too long of a cut and “Day 2” has a lyric that is inappropriate for this station. For those of you who know the movie or the show, the protagonist relives February 2nd, Groundhog Day, in Punxsutawney, PA over and over and over yet each day is somewhat different. For today’s theme of Groundhog Day, we are going to rehear songs, a song and then its different reprise.

  • First up is an appropriate song for our theme, the song “Each Tomorrow Morning” and its reprise from Jerry Herman’s Dear World.

  • You just heard “Each Tomorrow Morning” and its reprise from Jerry Herman’s Dear World.

  • Next for our Groundhog Day repetition theme is “Agony” and its reprise from Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods. The film version of Into The Woods omits the reprise which I think is necessary for establishing the lack of character of the two princes. It also increases the comedy in the show.  Here’s “Agony”.

  • You just heard “Agony” and its reprise from Into The Woods.

  • For Groundhog Day today we are playing songs and then their reprises. From Mack & Mabel, here is Robert Preston singing “I Won’t Send Roses” and Bernadette Peters with the reprise.

  • You just heard “I Won’t Send Roses” and its reprise from Mack & Mabel.

  • Continuing with our repetitive theme for Groundhog Day, we are going to hear “I Like Ev’rybody” and its reprise from The Most Happy Fella.

  • We just heard “I Like Ev’rybody” and its reprise from The Most Happy Fella.

  • To complete the first half of today’s show, Jeremy Jordan opens Newsies dreaming about moving out to “Santa Fe” from New York City. Act 1 ends with the reprise as he is desperate now to get away to “Santa Fe”.

  • You just heard “Santa Fe” and its reprise from Newsies as we celebrate Groundhog Day and repetition today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”

  • You just heard “The Colors of My Life” Parts one and two from Barnum.
