“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

4-20-2025

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded as I am getting ready for a medical procedure.

  • <Play “Reefer Madness>

  • You just heard the title song to the musical Reefer Madness which is a musical satire of the 1936 anti marijuana propaganda film.

  •  Today is April 20th, 4/20, and for those that understand that reference, today’s theme is about getting high. We make no judgements here, just Broadway songs about getting high.

  • Opening our first set we have the song “Pot at a Funeral” from a folk-pop musical called A Little More Alive about two estranged brothers who reunite after their mother’s funeral. We will follow that with the song “Hashish” from the original rock musical Hair. And we will close the set with “Now (It’s Just the Gas)” from Little Shop of Horrors. Here’s “Pot at a Funeral” from A Little More Alive.

Then we will hear the song “Chillin’ the Regrets” from Alice By Heart, a musical inspired by the children’s book Alice In Wonderland. We will follow that with “Morphine Tango” from Kiss of the Spider Woman and we will end this set with “Acid Queen” from The Who’s Tommy, Here’s “Wish I Were Here” from Next To Normal.
