Mni Wiconi--Water is Life

Things were a little crazy this week, both on air and with the recording.  Savannah, our control board techie extraordinaire, had to go out of town.  That left low-tech me (Barb) at the board and Albert doing most of the conversing with our guest, Laura Shadley.  The latter worked incredibly well, as both Laura and Albert went to Standing Rock and could talk with knowledge and passion on the show's topic.  The former, not so well.  I made a "to do" list before going into the studio, but forgot one very important component--"turn on Audacity to record show.  As a result, our recording is missing our intro,  And then there a few other missteps along the way from 6 to 7 pm.  After much agonizing, I was reminded that most of us at WRUU are amateurs.  Passion, not a paycheck, drives us to do what we do.  That is what community radio is about.

Meanwhile, back to show.   We picked Mni Wiconi as our topic because March 22 was World Water Day, and a perfect opportunity to talk about water as giver and sustainer of life.  Yet, why is it that water is under assault as if it is nothing more than a dumping ground for our human and industrial waste?   Millions of people around the world have no access to potable water.  Thousands die each year from water borne diseases.   What can we do to protect our water from further assault?
