  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

  • I asked fans to send me their lists of 5-10 favorite musicals, stage or screen, and I would create a show around their lists. I call these shows Fan Favorites and this is the 9th of these shows.

  • This fan gave me a list of 9 interesting choices as his favorites. The first show on his list is a rock musical about hippies and the sexual revolution. From the 1968 Broadway musical Hair, we are going to hear the title song followed by the songs “Black Boys” and “White Boys”. In the song “Black Boys” you will recognize the voice of a young Diane Keaton. Here is the Fan Favorite, Hair.

  • You just heard “Hair”, “Black Boys”, and “White Boys” from the Fan Favorite musical Hair.

  • The next favorite musical on his list was first performed in 1935 and based on Dubose Heyward’s 1925 novel that takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. From the folk opera Porgy and Bess, we are going to hear the songs “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So”.

  • You just heard the songs “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So” from the Fan Favorite musical Porgy and Bess.

  • We are playing Fan Favorites today and the third show on this fan’s list was the follow up to Schonberg and Boublil’s Les Miserables which was based on Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly. From 1989s Miss Saigon, here is the song “The Last Night of the World”.

  • You just heard “The Last Night of the World” from the Fan Favorite musical Miss Saigon.

  • The next show on his list is an interesting choice. With music and lyrics by Kander and Ebb, this 1968 musical was based on the 1946 novel and 1964 film, Zorba the Greek. From the Fan Favorite musical, Zorba, here is the song “The First Time”.

  • You just heard the song “The First Time” from the Fan Favorite musical Zorba.

  • The 5th show on his list is the rock musical Tommy based on The Who’s rock opera of the same name. Before we take a break here is the song “Pinball Wizard” from the Fan Favorite musical The Who’s Tommy.

  • You just heard “Pinball Wizard” from the musical The Who’s Tommy as we listen to Fan Favorites today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

  • I asked fans to send me their lists of 5 - 10 favorite musicals, stage or screen, and I would create a show around their lists. This is the 9th of those shows which I call Fan Favorites.

  • The 6th show on this list was a 1973 musical stage production and a 1975 failed movie. However, a 1976 midnight New York City showing with audience participation turned it into a cult phenomenon and is the longest running theatrical release in film history. It is still running in limited release today. From the Fan Favorite movie version of Rocky Horror Picture Show, here are the songs “Hot Patootie / Bless My Soul” and “Touch-A. Touch-A, Touch Me”.

  • You just heard the songs “Hot Patootie / Bless My Soul” and “Touch-A. Touch-A, Touch Me” from the Fan Favorite musical Rocky Horror Picture Show.

  • The next show on his list originated as a 1967 musical comedy film about a meek accountant and a failure of a theater producer that writer and director Mel Brooks turned into a 2001 Tony winning musical. From the Fan Favorite musical, The Producers, here are the songs “We Can Do It” and “Keep It Gay”. By the way, Stephen Sondheim was very impressed with Mel Brooks rhyming “Delaware” with “well aware” in the song “We Can Do It”.

  • You just heard the songs “We Can Do It” and “Keep It Gay” from the Fan Favorite musical The Producers.

  • The next show on this fan’s list of favorite shows was a musical revue based on the songs of satirist Tom Lehrer. • You just heard the song “When You Are Old and Grey” from the Fan Favorite musical revue, Tomfoolery.

  • The last show on this fan’s list is the 1978 Webber and Rice musical based on the life of the 2nd wife of the Argentinian president Juan Peron. From the Fan Favorite musical, Evita, here are the songs “Buenos Aires” and “High Flying, Adored”.
