    “Well, That’s Show Biz!”

    8-17-2025

    • You are listening to [Station ID].

    • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

    • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

    • <Play “Merrily We Roll Along”>

    • That was the title song to Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along and you might think from the title that they are moving through space but they are actually moving through Time, backwards. And that is our theme today, songs that deal with Time.

    • We are going to start off with Irene Ryan singing “No Time At All” from Pippin. You might remember Irene Ryan as Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies. This was her last role as she suffered a stroke during one of the performances and later died from complications. Then we are going to hear Ray Bolger, the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, singing “Once Upon a Time” from All American. This was a show with a score by Adams and Strouse, who also composed the music for Annie, but interestingly, the book was by Mel Brooks. And we will end this set about Time with the cast of Rent singing “Seasons Of Love”. Here’s “No Time At All” from Pippin.

    • You just heard “No Time At All” from Pippin, “Once Upon a Time” from All American, and “Seasons Of Love” from Rent.

    • <PSA>

    • We are listening to songs dealing with Time today and we begin our second set with “Sunrise, Sunset” from the film version of Fiddler on the Roof. Then we will hear "Distant Melody" from Peter Pan. And we will close the set with “The Best of Times” from La Cage Aux Folles. Here’s  “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof.

    • You just heard “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof, "Distant Melody" from Peter Pan, and “The Best of Times” from La Cage Aux Folles as we listen to songs related to Time today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

    • Our theme today is Time so every song is related in some way to Time.

    • We begin our third set with the song “Big Time” from Mack & Mabel. We will follow that with “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story” from Hamilton, and we will end the set with “Memory” from Cats. Here’s “Big Time” from Mack & Mabel.

    • And now for our concluding set of Time related songs we begin with “One Day More” from Les Miserables. We will follow that with “Send in the Clowns” from A Little Night Music. And we opened our Time show with the opening number from Merrily We Roll Along, a show that travels backwards through Time. It seems appropriate to conclude with “Our Time”, the finale from Merrily We Roll Along. Here’s “One Day More” from Les Miserables.

    • You just heard “One Day More” from Les Miserables, “Send in the Clowns” from A Little Night Music, and “Our Time”, the finale from Merrily We Roll Along as we conclude today’s show of songs related to Time.
