Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
Today’s show was pre-recorded.
Tomorrow, September 8th, is National Actors Day. To celebrate, we will be playing songs by actors who also made albums. And to uncomplicate things, for this show, we will be sticking to male actors.
We are going to begin our first set with Clint Eastwood. Now I know he was in the film version of the Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon. But here he is singing “Don’t Fence Me In” from his album Rawhide’s Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites. We will follow that with Bruce Willis singing “Under The Boardwalk” from his album The Return of Bruno. Next, we will hear Jeff Bridges sing “What a Little Bit of Love Can Do” from his self-titled album. We will follow that with Robert Downey Jr. singing “Smile” from his album The Futurist. We will close the set with Psycho’s Anthony Perkins, here going by the name Tony Perkins, singing “I Remember You” from his album On A Rainy Afternoon. Here’s Clint Eastwood singing “Don’t Fence Me In”.

Tomorrow is National Actor’s Day and we are celebrating by showcasing not singers who acted but actors who sang. We are going to open with Ryan Gosling singing “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie The Album. Then we will hear Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga sing “Music To My Eyes” from the film A Star Is Born. And finally, this duo started out as a series of skits on Saturday Night Live which eventually led to a movie. But before the movie, they put out an album titled Briefcase Full of Blues. From that album we will hear John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as The Blues Brothers singing “Soul Man”. Here’s Ryan Gosling with “I’m Just Ken”.

To honor both Star Trek Day and National Actors Day, we are going to open this set with William Shatner performing “Rocket Man” from his album Seeking Major Tom. We will follow that with Leonard Nimoy singing the “Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” from the album Spaced Out: The Very Best of Leonard Nimoy & William Shatner.
