Act 1 Closers 2025

“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

10-12-2025

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

  • We are about half way through my 4th year here at WRUU, my year starting on the first Sunday in April, and so, the theme today is Act 1 closing songs. And because of that, almost every song today will be considerably dramatic as they are designed to make you want to come back after intermission to find out how the story ends.

  • To start off today’s show, we have Josh Gad and the cast of The Book of Mormon singing “Man Up”. Then, Bernadette Peters sings “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from Gypsy. And we will end the set with the cast of A Little Night Music going on “A Weekend in the Country”.  Here’s “Man Up” from The Book of Mormon.

  • We are listening to songs that conclude Act 1 today and you just heard “Man Up” from The Book of Mormon, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from Gypsy, and “A Weekend in the Country” from A Little Night Music.

Then we will hear Audra McDonald singing “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” from The Sound of Music. And we will conclude this set with Mandy Patinkin and company singing about “Sunday” from Sunday in the Park with George as George Seurat’s most famous painting takes physical form. Here’s “Before the Parade Passes By” from Hello, Dolly!.
