When The Moon Sings - July 28, 2018

Music this week by the Penguin Café Orchestra, solos by three of the four members of FLOW, the Piano Guys, Max Richter, and Olafur Arnalds, the Icelandic composer and musician.  I also have a throw-wayyyback piece from Judy Collins and quite a bit else.

Ólafur Arnalds is an Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and producer from Mosfellsbær, Iceland.  Ólafur Arnalds mixes strings and piano with loops and beats crossing over from ambient/electronic to pop.  In 2009, Ólafur also formed an experimental techno project, entitled Kiasmos, with Janus Rasmussen from the Icelandic electro-pop band Bloodgroup, announcing his electronic debut album in 2014.

FLOW is Will Ackerman, Fiona Joy (Hawkins), Jeff Oster, and Lawrence Blatt, each a fine solo musician.  I've got solos from three of them this week.  You may remember Will Ackerman as the original owner and main producer of Windham Hill Records.  He's still active and still does beautiful music himself.

The Penguin Café Orchestra was the brainchild of Simon Jeffes, who has since passed away.  They were known for their wonderfully quirky pieces - it's one of the few orchestras that used a ukulele.
