Four Centuries of Great Music July 1, 2023 Full Body Orgasmic Scream Episode 4

Today on Four Centuries of Great Music is the fourth episode of Full Body Orgasmic Scream.  As described previously at a concert in April of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, during a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 5th symphony during the second movement, there was what was described as a “full body orgasmic scream”.  But as I describe previously later reports from around where the scream arose, it was probably a woman waking up from being asleep and not a reaction to the music.  But it is an interesting concept.  Well maybe we don’t have an orgasm when we listen to music, but I am sure that there are classical music pieces that give you that “tingle all over your body”.  Those are the works that we will be playing during this series of Four Centuries of Great Music episodes.  These episodes will be posted on Facebook after each show with the music on each episode.  I encourage you to make suggestions for each future episode about those classical music works that make you “tingle all over”.

We are going to open today’s episode with Benjamin Britten: Simple Symphony, Op. 4.  This is just a delight to listen to.  Foundational orchestral literature, perhaps not but just plain fun.  It is in 4 movements:
I. Boisterous Bourree
II. Playful Pizzicato
III. Sentimental Sarabande
IV. Frolicsome Finale

We are going to close our this first hour  of this episode of Four Centuries of Great music with a work that every movement is so profound they make me tingle all over, but particularly the last movement.  When I hear “The lamps may be different, but the light is the same: it comes from beyond.  Concentrate on the essence.  Concentrate on the light.”  I absolutely tingle all over.  This work is Reena Esmail’s “This Love Between Us, _Prayers for Unity”.  It is in 7 movements with scripture or poetry about 7 major religions:
I.  Buddhism
II.  Sikhism
III. Christianity
IV. Zoroastrianism
V.  Hinduism
VI. Jainism
VII. Islam

Lets open this second hour of this fourth episode of the four centuries of great music series full body orgasmic scream” with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 "From the New World". The whole work makes me tingle but particularly the second movement.  It is in 4 movements
I. Adagio - Allegro molto
II. Largo
III. Scherzo, Molto vivace
IV. Allegro con fuoco

Tchiakovsky:  Andante Cantabile
