Four Centuries of Great Music July 2, 2023 Full Body Orgasmic Scream Episode 5

Today on Four Centuries of Great Music is the fifth episode of Full Body Orgasmic Scream.  As described previously at a concert in April of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, during a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 5th symphony during the second movement, there was what was described as a “full body orgasmic scream”.  But as I also described before, later reports from around where the scream arose, it was probably a woman waking up from being asleep and not a reaction to the music.  But it is an interesting concept.  Well maybe we don’t have an orgasm when we listen to music, but I am sure that there are classical music pieces that give you that “tingle all over your body”.  Those are the works that we will be playing during this series of Four Centuries of Great Music episodes.  These episodes will be posted on Facebook after each show with the music on each episode.  I encourage you to make suggestions for each future episode about those classical music works that make you “tingle all over”.

Today has all pieces with some vocal contribution to the tingles all over.  We open with Julia Wolfe’s “Anthracite Fields” with is an oratorio about mine work in Pennsylvania.  It is in five sections:  1) Foundation, 2) Breaker Boys, 3) Speech, 4) Flowers, and 5). Appliances

Opening this second hour of this 5th episode of Fully Body Orgasmic Scream on Four Centuries of Great music is another suggestion by WRUU host PT Bridgeport.  He is not a great fan of opera but Arrigo Boito: Mefistofele: Prologue in the Heaven: Prelude and Ave, Signor degli angeli (Chorus of Angels) fits his category of music that will make us tingle all over.

Another work that falls in this category is Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” that is the last movement of his 9th symphony.  Today I don’t have time for the entire 9th symphony so I will be playing only the last movement

Next is another recommendation by WRUU host PT Bridgeport and that isThomas Tallis: Spem in alium

I am ending today’s episode of Four Centuries of Great music of vocal music that make you tingle all over with  Ashwini Bhide Deshpande:  Magan Rehna  (arranged by Reena Esmail)
