December 31, 2024--Viva la Cuba Libre
On December 31, 1958, a band of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara took Havana as then-Cuba's USA puppet president, Fulgencio Batista fled. Sixty-six years later, despite a USA invasion, numerous attempts on Castro's live, a 64-year embargo, sanctions, and being listed as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, Cuba stands. Weakened by these attempts by the USA to bring the regime down and make it, once again, their puppet; and fearful what the future brings when/if Marco Rubio, a fierce supporter of USA puppetry, becomes Secretary of State. But still Cuba lives.
Co-hosts Barbara Humphrey, Two Westbrook and Kevin O'Brien, recently returned from a visit to Cuba, discuss this most incredible country, with one of the highest literacy rates in the world, universal free public education and healthcare, and no unhoused. These are hard times in Cuba--blackouts, lack of necessary medical supplies, food shortages in many areas--resulting from the blockade. Yet Cuba lives.
Here is an article describing the Cuban's incredible healthcare system: The Cuban Healthcare System And Its Lessons For The US - PopularResistance.Org.
